High Order Finite Difference Methods with Subcell Resolution for Stiff Multispecies Discontinuity Capturing

چکیده
In this paper, we extend the high order finite-difference method with subcell resolution (SR) in [34] for two-species stiff one-reactionmodels to multispecies and multireaction inviscid chemical reactive flows, which are significantly more difficult because of the multiple scales generated by different reactions. For reaction problems, when the reaction time scale is very small, the reaction zone scale is also small and the governing equations become very stiff. Wrong propagation speed of discontinuity may occur due to the underresolved numerical solution in both space and time. The present SR method for reactive Euler system is a fractional step method. In the convection step, any high order shock-capturing method can be used. In the reaction step, an ODE solver is applied but with certain computed flow variables in the shock region modified by the Harten subcell resolution idea. Several numerical examples of multispecies and multireaction reactive flows are performed in both one and two dimensions. Studies demonstrate that the SR method can capture the correct propagation speed of discontinuities in very coarse meshes. AMS subject classifications: 65M06, 76V05, 80A32

High order finite difference methods with subcell resolution for advection equations with stiff source terms
A new high order finite-difference method utilizing the idea of Harten ENO subcell resolution method is proposed for chemical reactive flows and combustion. In reaction problems, when the reaction time scale is very small, e.g., orders of magnitude smaller than the fluid dynamics time scales, the governing equations will become very stiff. Wrong propagation speed of discontinuity may occur due ...
متن کاملHigh-order finite difference methods with subcell resolution for hyperbolic conservation laws with stiff reaction terms: preliminary results
The motivation for this research stems from the high-speed chemical reacting flows which have stiff reaction terms, where the chemical time scales are often much smaller than the fluid dynamics time scales. It is usually too expensive to resolve all the spatial/temporal scales if we are only interested in the main flow. On the other hand, insufficient spatial/temporal resolution will cause the ...
متن کاملA new gas-kinetic scheme based on analytical solutions of the BGK equation
Up to an arbitrary order of the Chapman–Enskog expansion of the kinetic Bhatnagar– Gross–Krook (BGK) equation, a corresponding analytic solution can be obtained. Based on such a compact exact solution, a new gas-kinetic scheme is constructed for the compressible Navier–Stokes equations. Instead of using a discontinuous initial condition in the gas-kinetic BGK–NS method Xu [K. Xu, A gas-kinetic ...
متن کاملAn adaptive high-order hybrid scheme for compressive, viscous flows with detailed chemistry
A hybrid weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO)/centered-difference numerical method, with low numerical dissipation, high-order shock-capturing, and structured adaptive mesh refinement (SAMR), has been developed for the direct numerical simulation of the multicomponent, compressive, reactive Navier-Stokes equations. The method enables accurate resolution of diffusive processes within reac...
متن کاملStaggered Finite Difference Schemes for Conservation Laws
In this work, we introduce new finite-difference shock-capturing central schemes on staggered grids. Staggered schemes may have better resolution of the corresponding unstaggered schemes of the same order. They are based on high order non oscillatory reconstruction (ENO or WENO), and a suitable ODE solver for the computation of the integral of the flux. Although they suffer from a more severe s...
